Neighbors,
Today the Aurora FD came out and rescued a dog that had wandered out onto the lake and broke through the ice. Fortunately the dog was saved, so the story has a happy ending. Next time might not be so happy. Please don't let your dogs out unleashed in the Lake area to "do their business" -- the ice on the Lake isn't that thick and you might lose a cherished companion.
The same goes double for children. The Lake is constantly circulated and aerated, so no matter how cold the air is, the ice on the lake is never 100% solid. Please lets avoid a senseless tragedy and make sure your kids know not to go out on the ice!

Its That Time Of Year Again...
...when the the Annual Homeowner's Meeting draws nigh. In addition to the annual Board report, we also have the opportunity to elect members to the Board of Directors.
Our Treasurer, Gary Gilliard, has decided not to run for re-election this year. Thanks to Gary for all his hard work and service to our community over the past several years.
This means that at least one Board position (not necessarily the Treasurer) will be open this year for election. If you wish to serve, we'd like to offer you the opportunity to present yourself to the community via this forum. Please let us know:

- A little bit about yourself. Who are you? How long have you lived here? How would we know you if we were to see you on the street?
- What do you do? Are there any professional qualities or qualifications you have that you think would be useful in service to our community?
- What are your priorities for the community? What would you hope to accomplish as a member of the Board?
- Anything else you'd like to share!

Lake Shore Streets Are Dangerous...
...to both kids and dogs. I don't know how many times lately I've turned a blind corner to find some kids playing on Zeno Street or seen a dog someone has let roam freely, but eventually someone is going to have a tragic accident.
We have a beautiful, grassy, FREE 14 acre park right here in the neighborhood, folks. Send your kids to play there...please! And if you have a dog, remember -- unleashed is unloved.

Things to do: Movie & a Martini/Milkshake @ the Wildlife Experience
This is cool. The Wildlife Experience is showing older movies & included in the price of tickets are food & drinks. You can drop off the kids for a few hours while they tour the museum, enjoy dinner & a milkshake, & then watch a movie. Or you can leave the kids @ home while you tour the galleries, enjoy a cocktail, snack, & dessert, & then some popcorn w/ the movie.
Tickets for the Movie & a Milkshake series are $15 for members & $18 for non-members. Upcoming movies include Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Surf's Up, & Bee Movie. Tickets for the Movie & a Martini series are $18 for members & $20 for non-members. Upcoming movies include The Princess Bride, Rebel Without a Cause, & Jaws.
I recommend either purchasing tickets online, ahead of time for an additional $2 for members & $2.50 for non-members or getting to the show early. The one I went to did sell out. For more info, click here.

Items of Interest
I was looking through the board's meeting minutes & read that homeowners who are late w/ their dues will be charged a $25 late fee. $15 of this goes to MSI & will not be waived. The remaining $10 may be waived @ the board's discretion. Also, the cost of trash removal increased by $9.45/household this year. This was in the January minutes.
In the May newsletter, Will is listed as Treasurer & Gary as Director. Not sure when they switched since there is no mention of it in any of the minutes. Will was researching investments for the board back in February.

Junk Mail, Part 2
In Junk Mail, Part 1, I wrote that a few weeks after contacting several bulk mail companies, the mail did stop. Unfortunately, Val-U-Ads continues to send mail. I called them & was informed they do not maintain a permanent do not mail list. Each time they purchase an updated mailing list from the Post Office, everyone gets added back.
While researching my options w/ regard to a company that refuses to remove an address from its mail lists, I came across the Do Not Mail site. It's an online petition to get the Post Office to maintain a list of addresses of people who do not want unsolicited mail.
There are a couple more steps you can take to reduce the amount of unwanted mail you receive. First, make your preferences known by creating an account & profile w/ the Direct Marketing Association. Second, stop the credit card offers by submitting a request w/ the Opt Out Service. Note: As a Colorado resident, you are entitled, to receive a free copy of your credit report annually (Annual Credit Report Service).
Finally, you are probably aware of the National Do Not Call Registry. Did you also know that Colorado maintains its own Colorado No Call List? Last October, I started receiving those notorious auto warranty calls & was informed by our state's attorney general that I ought to be on both lists & file complaints w/ the FTC & w/ the attorney general.
I'll follow up w/ another post on additional steps you can take to successfully deal w/ telemarketers including those who ignore the do not call list.
